Representatives of Southwold Town Council and Reydon and Walberswick Parish Councils and other stakeholders met Councillors and Officers from Suffolk County Council (SCC)  to discuss the closure of the Bailey Bridge on Friday 2 November.

SCC were able to confirm that short term repairs to allow the safe reopening of the bridge are possible and funded. Work is under way to commission these works as soon as possible with a target for completion before the Christmas period. Subsidised weekday running of the ferry will continue until Nov 9 and the weekend ferry service will run as normal from then.

SCC has promised a fuller briefing next week and updates will be issued fortnightly until the short term repairs are completed. Longer term, SCC has promised to come back the the stakeholder group with options for full refurbishment or replacement of the bridge which all agree is an essential part of the local infrastructure.
