Information about Southwold Art Circle's up-coming events.
Friday 14th June 2019 at 7-30pm
At Southwold Methodist Church Hall
Jack Stephenson, President of The Society, will give a talk on The Bloomsberries and The Fitzrovians, who represented two strands of early 20th century painting. Painters of The Bloomsbury circle were heavily influenced by Gaugin, Van Goch and Cezanne and this group was organised by Roger Fry. The Fitzrovians were influenced by Degas and Whistler, and the group contained Walter Sickert, Harold Gilman and Charles Ginner. They became known as The Camden Town School.
Jack will discuss the work of a range of artists from both groups with particular reference to studio practice and artistic intention.
