 Space-themed Summer Reading Fun for children of all ages

Join Space Chase at Southwold Library

20th July – 1st September

Read or have 6 books read to you, collect prizes and when you finish get a medal & certificate!

Summer Japanese for children aged 8-12

Thursday 1st August 10.00am – 12.00noon

A fun session to learn your first words in Japanese, a bit about life in Japan and try out some origami!

All children will receive a booklet from the session and will be able to take home any origami they have made.

£6 per child/£10 for two siblings (payable at booking)

“Kidz” Film Fun 10.30am-1.00pm at Southwold Arts Centre, St Edmunds Hall.  Every Friday in the Summer Holidays!

Film, Crafts, Games, Art and more! with Southwold Library for Children and their Families

Friday 2nd August The Rescuers,  1977, U, 78min.   Make a paper plate seagull, a mouse puppet or a pipe cleaner alligator.  Munch on a sweetie tailed mouse, a fruity mouse or a cheesy mouse.  Dare you try some edible bird poo?

Friday 9th August The Pirates in an Adventure with Scientists,  2012, U, 88min.   Make your own pirate outfit (complete with eyepatch, sword & hook hand), a pompom dodo and a treasure chest.  Try a fruity boat, a pirate biscuit or some edible treasure.

Friday 16th August Frozen,  2013, PG, 109min.   Make a sparkly crown or Olaf hat and your own snow globe and paper snowflakes. Create a sweet or savoury edible Olaf and try some Frozen jelly and biscuits.

Friday 23rd August Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,  1971, U, 89min.   Make your own Willy Wonka, Oompa Loompa mask and pipe cleaner lollypops.  Create (and eat) your own new chocolate bar and a fruity Oompa Loompa or make some Skittle art.

Friday 30th August The Smurfs,  2011, U, 103min.   Make a Smurf balloon, a Smurf mask or give yourself a blue Smurf face.  Create your own little Smurf toadstool house.  Nibble on a Smurf cupcake, make an edible toadstool and try a range of blue Smurf food.

Activities start at 10.30am Ticket Prices Under 16s £ 3.00 (Two carers free)  Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.   Unaccompanied and Additional Adults £ 3.00 Refreshments available

Learn plate spinning, juggling, diablo, hula hoop, flower stick & more!

All Children will be given a magic trick pack and will learn several tricks, taking whatever props are used home.

Family Fun Day at Southwold Boating Lake and Tearooms

Sunday 11th August 10.00am – 4.00pm

Join Southwold Library and Beach Bonkers at a family fun day hosted by Southwold Boating Lakes & Tea Rooms

Beach Bonkers will have a tableful of beachcombing treasures for you to explore, a mini-beach for you to search and a giant beachcombing board game to play.  Southwold Library will be on hand with seaside stories and crafts.

 

One Day Craft Class: An Introduction to Dorset Buttons: the wound yarn button

Monday 12th August 10.00am – 12.00noon

Barbara Johnson of Spotty Dog Designs will introduce you to the craft of Dorset Button making.

The class includes instructions to take away and enough rings, yarn, needle to make three buttons.

The class is 2 hours and costs £7 per person, all materials supplied.

Mini Monsters Creepy Crawly Roadshow

Wednesday 14th August 11.00am & 2.00pm

Come and meet the mini monsters: minibeasts, reptiles and invertebrates.  Find out fascinating facts about the animals before getting up close and personal with each species
